Looking Back

by GCF on 10/29/12

Well, I definitely didn't think it would happen as fast as it did, but we've hit our 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

Today is the day, October 29th. My "baby" is 1.

This weekend we celebrated with a huge group of GCF athletes at the Banjo Beatdown competition in Melbourne, FL at Maverick CrossFit. For many, it was their first competition, and for others, a second or third time. Either way, it was an incredible experience for all of us. I was supposed to compete with everyone, and had to back out due to an Achilles issue, but it turned out to be an even better weekend being right there with everyone as they gave their all in each and every WOD. Lots of excitement, blood, sweat and tears! Literally! Watching some of those athletes complete a WOD they didn't think they could was amazing. Whether they struggled to finish, finished, or even came in first in their heats, I couldn't help but think of how far each and every one of them has come. AND how far each person at GCF has come.
These athletes come in here, work their hardest, give their all, practice skills they don't have and support those around them. Each person here is like a coach to someone else they've helped before, and it's so amazing to watch that happen every day.
Our GCF community has grown into a family, with tight bonds, support & help, and has turned into a determined group of people.
Watching CrossFit change their lives is the best gift. I am so thankful to be put on this earth to help people with that. I remember what it did for me so many years ago when I started (over 6!) and cannot believe where it's taken me. I loved my home gym, and would never trade that experience, but always knew that one day I'd have my own place. After LOTS of encouragement by family, friends, and especially Lee, I decided to take that jump. It was a scary one! Thankfully I had a lot of support from Lee, Wayne, and Chris. Without them, we wouldn't be Gardens CrossFit.

I've learned so much over the last year, and still have so much to learn. But one thing I know, I will NEVER stop coaching. It's in my blood, it's who I am, and it's what I'm here to do.

You come across a lot of people in life, helping you learn what to do and what not to do. People are put in your life for a reason, and I'm thankful for all that I've learned, good and bad. If it weren't for all of those people, I wouldn't be where I am today. So THANK YOU to everyone! You've all helped me in some way get to this place!

Way to go Gardens CrossFit, here's to many more amazing, awesome, years of coaching, WODing, and fantastic people!
